Steve Halliwell Steps Down
Thu 9th January 2014 | Wigan Robin Park | By Ian Templeman
After many years at Ashton Athletic, Steve joined the Robins in early 2011, and took on the role of Chairman a few months later. The club has enjoyed title wins, cup final appearances and even national exposure on television during an FA Cup run in his time at the club, but he has now decided that it is time to move on to new challenges.
Steve said: "My short time with the Robins started with promotion as champions, trophy success, and an excellent first season in the Premier Division. Then we had the exodus of players and management in the summer, and the total rebuild of a team that at any level cannot always be achieved, especially when the lads need to gain experience rather than having experience.
"But I now feel my journey with the club is at the end of the road. I would like to thank everyone at the club, from the players past and present, the not seen but not forgotten backroom staff, and of course my working committee.
"Will I appear again in football? Only time will tell. Will my spare time give me a chance to improve my fishing skills or will I just enjoy the pleasures of doing nothing on Saturday? At the moment I don't know, but watch this space.
"For now, I will have a rest from football and crack on with my job, which is what pays the bills, and take it from there".
