Division One Play Off Final - Whitchurch Alport v Cammell Laird 1907
Wed 16th May 2018 | General | By Ian Templeman
The curtain comes down on the league season on Thursday night, with Whitchurch Alport hosting Cammell Laird 1907 in the Division One play off final.
For Alport, it’s a second chance to win promotion for the first time via the play offs, having missed out in the semi-finals last year, and for Lairds it’s an opportunity to return to the Premier Division at the first time of asking, after being relegated last season.
Both sides go into the game in good form, with Alport unbeaten in five games, and Lairds timing a great late run perfectly, with a sequence of seven wins in nine games during April and early May moving them up the table and into the final play off place.
It’s been almost six months since the two side last met on league business, with a 2-2 draw on Merseyside in September before Alport emerged victorious from the return game at Whitchurch in November, winning 2-0 through goals from Joe Howell and Simon Everall.
Another big crowd is likely at Yockings Park for the winner-takes-all encounter, which kicks off at 7.45 pm and will be decided by a penalty shoot-out if the scores are level at the end of 90 minutes. Normal admission prices for league games apply.
