New club formed through AFC Liverpool supporter project

An AFC Liverpool supporter project, aimed at encouraging refugees to get involved in local football, has now led to a team being formed.
The new club, Ullet Road Church FC, is made up of refugees living on Merseyside and the club will play their games in the I Zingari League Division One this season.
The team was started by Reverend Philip Waldron of the Ullet Road Unitarian Church which is located in the Sefton Park area of Liverpool, and Reds supporter and past board member Chris Allen, with the support of Asylum Link Merseyside, an organisation dedicated to assisting asylum seekers and refugees in Liverpool.
The organisation aims to provides friendship, help and advice to asylum seekers and refugees, and raise public awareness around refugee issues.
Current AFC Liverpool board member Josh Spinks said: "Everyone at AFC Liverpool offers all involved our full support, and we wish them every success on and off the pitch this season".
