Kits appeal for Uganda

Eccleshall are backing a campaign to source football kits for a worthy cause in Uganda.
Long term Eccleshall supporter and occasional programme contributor, Geoff Banwell, was recently approached by Paul Bransby who lives near to Pershall Park, seeking help for an orphans’ football team in Uganda.
Geoff takes up the story: “Namutumba Kids Team is an underprivileged football club in Uganda with very few resources and caters for orphaned boys and girls alike.
"What they are short of is kit and would be grateful for spare Youth size football strips in particular, and any unwanted football boots sizes 6-12 that any clubs might wish to donate.
"Whilst promoting this locally to date, I felt that spreading the appeal more widely around Hallmark Security League clubs would possibly generate a greater response”.
Paul Bransby added: “I read an article recently regarding a kit donation to this orphans football team in Uganda and decided to investigate closer.
"They have a Facebook website under the name of Namutumba Kids Team which, after seeing it, enticed me to seek further support for them. They have, in fact, also formed a football academy to promote the game even further to help the underprivileged youth of Uganda.
"I have received a team strip from Eccleshall’s Sunday League side, but more kit is needed. I have shown a photo of the donated shirts to the team’s organiser and, appreciating the age groups involved, mentioned that they were only the larger sizes.
"He is also happy to receive these and said, I quote, Not to worry, we also have large girls in the academy. So it seems the club is open to all offers!”
Eccleshall Club Secretary, Jim Tunney, said: “Earlier this year we helped out one of our former players who was travelling to Zambia as part of his university course and provided him with one of our spare kits for a youth team out there.
"This was put to use very quickly as they played in a tournament shortly after. I’m sure many clubs like us have spare sets of kit which can be taking up room and could be put to good use by this Ugandan club.
"Paul would be happy to co-ordinate collection and organise delivery to these youngsters. He can be contacted on email@example.com if you can help”.
